LEM N GINGE

and the princess of kakos

“…conjures Shrek 2s brazen humour and leans on the twisted fairytales of Angela Carter, without ever erring from the crude, kinetic comedy that is becoming Higgins and Potter’s trademark.”

— The Guardian

“those two are geniuses really”

— Shaun Keaveny, BBC Radio 4

once upon a time . . .

…In a far away city in a queer fairytale, a princess wakes up to find that her voice has been stolen. Once upon the same morning, two travelling actors arrive in the city of Kakos, only to find that the city doesn’t actually have any theatres. But hark! The King has just announced a handsome prize for anyone who can recover his daughter’s voice. It’s not an acting job per se, but cash is cash, right? And so it is that two bewildered millennials become embroiled in a mythic theft, armed with scant brains and absolutely no brawn. Oh, And the King is gonna rip out the tongues of every woman under the age of 25 if they don’t return it in time. No presh.

Written and recorded over lockdown, Lem N Ginge is a bawdy comedy and queer adventure-quest, commissioned by Ellie Keel Productions and 45 North, as part of their Written on the Waves programme.
